The 3 Sisters
I would like to introduce you to my latest embroidery, The Three Sisters. As you may know, many of my pieces of work try to incorporate elements of the beautiful natural landscape in which I am fortunate to live. I have always been fascinated in the tales and myths that exist within rural areas that explain the creation of key natural features, and this piece in particular has a beautiful story behind it. Here, I have taken inspiration from the Welsh myth: The Three Sisters of Plynlimon and have tried to portray the source of the three great rivers in Wales: Severn, Wye and Ystwyth.
"High in the black mountains, on the windswept slopes of Mount Plynlimon, three sisters met to discuss the weighty problem of what was the best way to the sea - for, being water spirits, they were fond of the oceans."
Richly patterned and textured fabrics have been combined to create a detailed composition, with the focus on the three sisters at their source, Mount Plynlimon.
I couldn't resist but include the beautiful descriptions that reflect the sisters personalities and therefore the nature of the river itself and these have been included by writing these exerts in gold calligraphy on the mount.
Framed in an elegant navy and gold frame, with custom made cream and navy double mount, this artwork would make a stunning statement in any home. This original can be viewed at my shop (please get in touch if you would like to arrange a viewing) and some of you may have been able to catch a glimpse of it through the window!
A limited edition print run has been created of this artwork, A4 in size, with typed exerts in the margins. This print is available in my etsy shop: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/809462330/the-3-sisters-machine-embroidery-textile?ref=shop_home_active_1&frs=1
Please let me know what you think of it!
